We’ve researched the latest wedding trends from dress designs, to party ideas, to bring you the freshest, creative, and unique ideas that are happening at weddings up and down the country.
These aren’t short-term phases – we expect these hot new trends to stick around, so if you’re getting married in 2017 or 2018, here are the six wedding trends you need to know about:
Bridal fashion is going extreme in 2018 – from super sexy, barely-there gowns, to the slightly more unique gown-with-a-cape combo. Prepare for wedding dresses in blushes, metallic, and muted colours too, as the traditional white or ivory is left behind.
- The Accessories
The tiara is making a comeback, along with longer veils (think of the length of a train of a dress!). We’re also seeing many more floral headpieces, as well as larger statement jewellery. When it comes to wedding accessories, it seems that bigger is better.
- The Bridal Party
The ladies are wearing two piece dresses, and even jumpsuits are making much more of an appearance! And that’s not all, we’re mixing it up much more frequently with mixed-gender wedding parties, and we love it. From Man of Honour, to Best Woman, there are no rules when it comes to who sits where.
Many couples are asking their wedding DJ to play throughout the entire reception – from acoustic tracks and ballads playing in the background during cocktail hour and the main meal, to a prolonged evening of dancing, with some venues even allowing for an “after party” with music.
Wedding mirror photo booths are becoming ever popular, at every wedding. They offer a fun interactive experience for guests and they even leave with their own printed photos.
In addition to the standard bouquet for the Bride, posies for the Bridesmaids, and button holes for the gents, we’re seeing a rise in the use of floral archways during ceremonies, as well as a floral wall (think of it like a step and repeat) for the wedding photos.
Instead of the traditional sit-down dinner, many couples are choosing to offer a more contemporary buffet-style meal, with some even opting for retro and vintage food and cocktail trucks!
Wedding cakes seem to be getting smaller, as more couples opt for a traditional dessert, and wedding cupcakes in place of a traditional cake, are still proving popular.
One emerging trend is a Gin Bar as opposed to a Cocktail Bar, although we don’t think a Cocktail Bar will ever go out of style!
